A Footloose Gypsy Trip to Assam & Meghalaya

(8 Nights and 9 Days)

DAY-BY-DAY PLAN

Day 1: Arrive at Guwahati (capital ofAssamand drive to Shillong (3 hours), a lovely hill-station in the state of Meghalaya. The road winds through green hills and crosses beautiful UmiumLake. Arrive at Shillong late evening and check into your lovely guesthouse.

Overnight: Shillong Guest House

Day 2:  Drive to Cherrapunjee on the Shillong plateau – this is the place that receives highest amount of rainfall in the world. Enjoy a short hike to the elephant falls and Shillong peak covered in mist. Explore a limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites. Late afternoon arrive at Cherrapunjee Resort, a lovely resort overlooking the Bangladesh plains.

Overnight: Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort or equivalent.

Day 3: Half/full day hike to the living root bridges – these are bridges made by Khasis entwining the roots of living trees. If you go for the day long hike (8-9 hours) you can take a dip in a natural pool. On the way you will see three interesting villages and can stop to interact with the locals. Come back to the resort for a well-deserved rest.

Overnight: Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort or equivalent.

Day 4: Drive across the plateau to thevillageofMawllynong, considered the cleanest village inAsia. This village is really a special place – the villagers have made it so clean and green, it is like a piece of paradise! Walks to the watchtower made entirely of bamboo, and take in the wonderful view.  Visit the border market where goods are traded from Bangladesh.

Overnight: Mawllynong guest house.

Day5: Drive back to Shillong (2 hours). Along the way, visit the colorful local markets, run entirely by women (the Khasis are a matriarchal society), selling (and chewing) betel nuts, pineapples and oranges (locally grown). At Shillong, visit the St. Mary’s Church, and in the afternoon see the local archery.

Overnight: Shillong Guest House.

Day 6: After an early breakfast, drive to KazirangaNational Park(6-7 hours), driving through rural scenery.  Reach late afternoon and leisure.

Overnight: Kaziranga, Bon-habi or equivalent.

Day 7: Early morning Safari on elephant back to the National Park where you will see one-horned rhinos, wild Asiatic buffaloes, elephants as well as other flora and fauna unique to this part of the world.  Afternoon jeep-safari into the National Park.

Overnight: Kaziranga, Bon-habi or equivalent.

Day 8: After breakfast, drive back to Guwahati, capital of the state ofAssam. Evening shopping and leisure at the comfortable and welcoming guest-house. Walk down to the river-side (riverBrahmaputra).

Day 9: Drop-off to airport.

Booking Policy

1) Booking must be confirmed with 100 % payment before the trip.

2) To incorporate any changes to the itinerary before or during travel, full payment for the changes must be made.

3) We are sorry to inform you that Footloose Gypsy cannot be held accountable nor will bear the expenses / or loss of expenses therein for any changes / damages caused due to natural calamities, political unrest, erratic weather and personal health problems.

Cancellation Policy

1) Footloose Gypsy’s cancellation policy applies only to the overhead costs and margins incurred. Where other private companies for travel and accommodation (includes flights, taxis, hotels, resorts, etc) have been engaged, their cancellation policies and charges will apply. Permits, visas and other legal documentation cannot be reimbursed.

i) 30 – 45 days prior to departure: 70% refund

ii) 15 days prior to departure: 50 % refund

iii) Less than 15 days / No-show: No refund
