Footloose Gypsy! Where do I begin? Penning down a ‘few’ experiences won’t quite do it, so here goes …
It was the 12th of August, at midnight, when my husband, surprised me with the news of a holiday; a pre-planned holiday coordinated by none other than, Amish, the only Footloose Gypsy I know
Since it was the first time I wasn’t involved in planning our holiday, anxiety did get the better of me. But, as unexpected as it was, this was, without doubt, some of the most memorable and most exhilarating 11 days of my life!
To start off, Amish had prepared us very thoroughly for what was in store—he gave us complete information and ensured that our expectations of the weather, the stay and the adventure were spot on. He thoughtfully picked out round-trip flights that were well-connected, economical and reliable.
We reached the Leh airport only to bump into a bunch of friends (I kid you not! Amish had thoughtfully coordinated this trip among a group of friends who had lost contact over the years) and a warm welcome by the Footloose Gypsy team, replete with local tradition, a friendly and informative cab ride, welcoming Uttariyas and Ladakhi nashta (breakfast).
Footloose Gypsy funneled down our holiday with the most breathtaking sights and the perfect blend of adventure and comfort!
Over, the next 11 days we saw the quaintest of monasteries (Thiksey & Deskit), visited the humblest and most colourful palaces (Leh & Shey Palace), admired some massive Buddha statues (well… does a 49-foot statue do it for you?), presided over two of the highest motorable passes in the world (Khardungla & Changla), explored some very interesting monuments, ruins & attractions (Shanti Stupa, Druk Padma School, Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Saheb, Hall of Fame Museum), swam and rafted across the coldest waters (River Zanskar), witnessed the bluest waters (Pangong lake), got the closest we’ll ever get to Pakistan (we lived in a little village, Turtuk, a stone’s throw from the Indo-Pak border), explored the Nubra valley on Bactrian camels … (catch your breath) … I mean, seriously, have you really run through a field of flowers (as Bollywood as that sounds)? Eaten the sweetest apricots and apples off roadside trees? Lived in tents at -1°C? Witnessed the majestic K2 peak in the early morning? Rolled down sand dunes? Touched snow in an oxygen-deprived mountainous area? …
Dearest Footloose Gypsy, just writing this testimonial makes me nostalgic and forces me to relive the crazy adventure you took us on. It still seems unreal… almost like the magic carpet ride from Alladin! You’ve touched our lives and given us memories that we’ll cling to forever! Nobody could’ve ever built half the holiday you created for us! Right from the friends we made and the brilliant cab drivers we were accompanied by … to the blue waters of Pangong, the snow-covered peaks and the crazy mountain treks, everything was just flawless!
I’d recommend you any day for the whole experience - the accommodation, the adventure and tour, the food, the hospitality, the company, and importantly, the price!
11 on 10 to you, Footloose Gypsy! I can’t wait to plan our next adventure with you!
All the best! May the sky be your limit!
