Day 2:\u00a0 Drive to\u00a0Cherrapunjee<\/span>\u00a0on the Shillong plateau \u2013 this is the place that receives highest amount of rainfall in the world. Enjoy a short hike to the elephant falls and Shillong peak covered in mist. Explore a limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites. Late afternoon arrive at\u00a0Cherrapunjee Resort, a lovely resort overlooking the Bangladesh plains.<\/span><\/p>\n Overnight: Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort or equivalent.<\/strong><\/p>\n Day 3: Half\/full day hike to the living root bridges \u2013 these are bridges made by Khasis entwining the roots of living trees. If you go for the day long hike (8-9 hours) you can take a dip in a natural pool. On the way you will see three interesting villages and can stop to interact with the locals. Along the way, visit the colorful local markets, run entirely by women (the Khasis are a matriarchal society), selling (and chewing) betel nuts, pineapples and oranges (locally grown).
